Shift to Mixed Media

This work marks my journey into mixed media and my physical move to North Carolina. When I moved to the mountains, I got more curious about how to capture the textures of the land and began experimenting with recycled papers.

My process includes expressive mark-making with ink on tissue paper. It’s a playful process of using unexpected tools dipped in ink to make marks, like toothpicks, brushes, and string. I also alter old magazine pages with a natural cleaner that causes the ink to smear around. This work also includes recycled paint-dabbed paper towels that are a byproduct of my painting process. I apply these materials like a collage on the canvas, then add layers of color with acrylic paint.
